Fall Classic Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Audience Members In the US, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The nail-biting extended clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run drew a aggregate over 50 million watchers across the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB announced this represents the most-watched World Series Game 7 since the 1991 contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement over the last finale featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th place.

Global Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language program in the country since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series drew 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete US average reached over 16 million. The total World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent rise over the previous year and the network’s best playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
